How To Turn On The Newest Twitter Security Measure

If you use Twitter at all, there is a good chance that you have seen or heard about someone being hacked. Twitter hacking is something that has been remarkably common over the past few years. It almost seemed too easy. Finally it appears that Twitter is fed up with it. The company announced that they have a new security measure in place that is designed to stop exactly those types of problems.
The new measure is called two-code authentication and it basically means that you have to type in additional codes over and beyond your password and user-name if you choose to turn it on. Response to the update has been lukewarm given that Facebook, Google and other Internet giants have had this in place for some time. Twitter is better late than never.

So won't this be a pain in the tail?

For those that hate dealing with passwords and security measures, yes. For those that care much more about protecting their brands and accounts, then not so much. What it basically means is that you will need a text from Twitter to give you a new code when you sign in.
This two layer security is fairly fool proof and it also provides you with notifications when your account is being messed with. That feature alone makes the process worthwhile. One hack can do untold damage to a brand, so why would you consider not using the extra protection.

How to enable the feature on my Twitter account?

Simply go into your settings on your Twitter account and choose the option “account security.” Once you have gone into that option, choose “require a verification code when I sign in” and you are done. You do need to ensure that your phone number is accurate or the codes will be sent to the wrong place.
Update your phone number before activating the feature.  Once this is done, you will get a six digit code each time you sign in as a text message. Input that code and you are done.

What about my Twitter apps?

Twitter says that they should and all signs point to that being true. All the apps seem to work just fine as the verification is simply an extra step to get to the same thing. Twitter has done a pretty good job of making sure this whole thing is seamless.
Apps that worked before will continue to work and new apps will only demand that you be signed in and have your code verified. Be careful of anyone who says they can get you more followers but need to log into your account to do it.
One note that you might want to consider about Twitter before you sign up for this and think you are safe...Twitter hackers are still capable of getting in if you make it easy. This extra layer of security does not mean you can go and change your password to something super easy to guess.
Keep a solid password combo that involves capital letters, numbers and so on. You still have to be careful what you click on. Other than that, you can enjoy an added layer of protection from those bad boy hackers on Twitter.
