Backup of Files - An Effective Approach of Having Your Files Safe

Like other mechanical devices, laptops and computers are also subjected to failure. Today, these computing devices have become the most crucial storehouses of the important information of the users. Losing single data from the system may lead you to bear heavy damages. To avert such situations, it is good to backup your system on a regular basis and be on the safer side.
Taking backup of a computer or a laptop has been made easier by facilitating the user with ‘Backup and Restore’ built in utility tool. Using this utility tool, you can take the required backup in the devices of your choice—be it an external hard drive or a network.
You can automate and schedule the backup process, by following the below mentioned method.

Steps to Back up Files:

  • Click on Start >> go to ‘Control Panel’ >> choose ‘System and Maintenance’ >> ‘Backup and Restore’
  • To initiate the backup configuration process, click on ‘Set up backup’.
  • Choose the location or the device that you want to take your backup in. These days, DVDs are not preferred. However, if the files are small enough to be stored in DVDs, then you can go ahead with it.
  • You will be then, given options of letting Windows choose the directories or you can pick the folders. If any folder occupies more space than available in your device, then the system will prevent that folder from being backed up. Once the device is chosen, click on ‘Next’.
  • Next would be the time that you need to schedule the backup process and the frequency at which you need the backup. You can choose your convenient time by selecting ‘Change Schedule’.
  • Under ‘Save Settings and Run Backup’, click on ‘Back up Now’.

Set reminder by Task Schedulers:

  • Go to ‘Start’ >> choose Control Panel >> System and Security >> select ‘Administrative Tools’ >> click on ‘Task Scheduler’.
  • On the right side of the window, you will be able to see an Action pane. Choose ‘create basic task’ from there.
  • You need to enter the name and description of the task and then, choose ‘Next’. Then, you need to select the trigger. It is advised to select the trigger same as the frequency of the backup. For example, if you have opted to take a backup on a weekly basis, then set a reminder beforehand of the backup time. Select ‘Next’, and choose the time & date.
  • You will be alerted to connect an external device for the backup, either by an e-mail or a message pop-up, depending upon the selection of the option ‘Display a Message’ or ‘Send an Email’.
  • Choose ‘Finish’ to complete the task scheduling.
So, you are set to backup your files. You can maintain your files well, without putting a lot of effort.
